On Tuesday it had burned more than 56,000 acres and forced thousands to evacuate. As of Friday evening, the fire had reached 59,666 acres and the perimeter was 30% contained. More than 2,400 fire personnel are involved in battling the fire. The blaze, the largest wildfire in California so far this year, erupted on July 29 in the forest near the California-Oregon border and grew rapidly, fuelled by winds from thunderstorms.
